The expectant mother experiences many psychological, biomechanical and musculoskeletal changes during pregnancy.

This makes reflexology a valued and beneficial therapy at this important time and also the post natal period.

Therapy for conception and fertility issues

  • Most successful when the couple both participate in reflexology therapy. Treatments are adapted to focus on the reflex points and energy channels related to the reproductive organs and glands.
  • Calming, aids relaxation, reducing anxiety and stress fundamental to successful conception
  • Balances reproductive hormone levels in both partners and helps regulate menstrual cycle and ovulation in women in preparation for fertilisation and pregnancy
  • Boosts circulation and strengthens immunity for pre conception health and vitality
  • Treatments are recommended for 3 months to bring the body back into balance in readiness for conception allowing ample time to produce healthy sperm and ova.

Therapy for pregnancy

  • Boosts energy levels, vitality and a sense of well-being
  • Helps reduce high blood pressure or normalise low blood pressure
  • Promotes relaxation, reduces insomnia aiding quality sleep
  • Eases backache, physiological discomfort and fatigue
  • Relieves oedema and leg cramps

  • Boosts circulation providing good oxygenation to your baby, the uterus and placenta
  • Prepares body for labour, stimulating hormonal balance, helps to prevent overdue births
  • One method used to encourage labour is known as  “Priming Labour” creating an energy boost to stimulate the onset of contractions.

Treatments during pregnancy may not be suitable for women with a history of miscarriages or premature labour.

It is not recommended if you have pre-exclampia, exclampia or have had recent vaginal bleeding.  If you are more than 32 weeks the therapy may not be suitable if you have placenta previa (low lying placenta) or hydra-amnios (excess water surrounding your baby).

If reflexology is new to you it is recommended that treatments commence after 12 weeks, however reflexology is perfectly safe and will not cause a miscarriage.
